Do I need to prepare?
A scrotal or testicular ultrasound needs no preparation. For a prostate study, drink 32 oz of water 45 minutes before and arrive with a full bladder.
Is the exam painful?
No. Ultrasound is non-invasive and uses sound waves, not radiation. A warm gel is applied and the probe glides gently over the skin.
What can a scrotal ultrasound detect?
It can identify the cause of pain or swelling, including varicoceles, hydroceles, cysts, inflammation and testicular masses.
How long does it take?
Most studies take 30 to 45 minutes.
Do I need a referral?
No. You can book either study directly.
When will I get my results?
A board-certified radiologist reads your images and the written report is delivered within 24 hours — to you, and to your physician if you like.
Does insurance cover it?
