Questions

Pediatric ultrasound questions

Is ultrasound safe for my child?
Yes. Ultrasound uses sound waves, not radiation, which makes it one of the safest imaging options for infants and children.
Will the exam hurt my child?
No. It is completely non-invasive. A warm gel is applied and a small probe glides gently over the skin.
How can I help my child prepare?
Bring a favorite toy, blanket or device for distraction. Our sonographer is experienced with young patients and works at your child’s pace. We’ll tell you about any study-specific preparation when you call.
How long does it take?
Most pediatric studies take 20 to 45 minutes, depending on the study and how comfortable your child is.
How do I book?
Call (916) 751-1944. We’ll talk through what your child’s doctor is looking for and find a time that works.
When will I get my results?
A board-certified radiologist reads your images and the written report is delivered within 24 hours — to you, and to your physician if you like.
Does insurance cover it?
We are flat-rate cash pay with no facility fees. HSA and FSA cards are accepted, and we can give you a superbill to submit to your insurance yourself.
