Studies

Choose your pregnancy scan

Obstetric studies are booked individually. The second-trimester anatomy scan needs a referral.

First trimester — dating / viability (6–13 weeks)

Confirms the pregnancy, checks the heartbeat and dates the pregnancy so you know how far along you are.

Full bladder: 32 oz water 45 min before

Limited growth scan

Checks your baby’s growth and position, the amniotic fluid and the placenta later in pregnancy.

No prep needed

Elective heartbeat & gender

A relaxed, non-diagnostic visit to hear the heartbeat, find out the gender when it can be seen, and take home a heartbeat animal with your baby’s heartbeat recorded inside. No medical report — please stay under the care of your prenatal provider.

Second trimester — anatomy (19–24 weeks)

A detailed survey of your baby’s anatomy and growth. Because it is a formal diagnostic study, we perform it with a referral from your OB or midwife — book online and we’ll confirm it before your visit.

Questions

Pregnancy ultrasound questions

Is an ultrasound safe for my baby?
Yes. Ultrasound uses sound waves, not radiation, and has been used safely in pregnancy for decades.
Do I need to prepare?
For a first-trimester scan, drink 32 oz of water 45 minutes before and arrive with a full bladder. No preparation is needed for the second-trimester anatomy scan or the limited growth scan.
Is the exam painful?
No. Ultrasound is non-invasive and uses sound waves, not radiation. A warm gel is applied and the probe glides gently over the skin.
How long does it take?
Most pregnancy scans take 30 to 45 minutes, depending on the trimester.
Do I need a referral?
Not for first-trimester or limited growth scans. The second-trimester anatomy scan needs a referral from your OB or midwife — book online and we’ll confirm it before your visit.
When will I get my results?
A board-certified radiologist reads your images and the written report is delivered within 24 hours — to you, and to your physician if you like.
Does insurance cover it?
We are flat-rate cash pay with no facility fees. HSA and FSA cards are accepted, and we can give you a superbill to submit to your insurance yourself.
