Questions

Abdominal ultrasound questions

Do I need to prepare?
For a complete or limited abdominal study, avoid food and drink for at least 8 hours beforehand. For a renal and bladder study, drink 32 oz of water 45 minutes before and arrive with a full bladder. A thyroid scan needs no preparation.
Is the exam painful?
No. Ultrasound is non-invasive and uses sound waves, not radiation. A warm gel is applied and the probe glides gently over the skin.
How long does it take?
Most abdominal studies take 30 to 45 minutes.
Do I need a referral?
No. You can book any abdominal, renal or thyroid study directly.
When will I get my results?
A board-certified radiologist reads your images and the written report is delivered within 24 hours — to you, and to your physician if you like.
Does insurance cover it?
We are flat-rate cash pay with no facility fees. HSA and FSA cards are accepted, and we can give you a superbill to submit to your insurance yourself.
