Breast ultrasound questions

Where do Auburn patients have their breast ultrasound?

At our private clinic room inside Smith Family Medicine, 951 Reserve Dr #100 in Roseville. For patients who need us to come to them, we also offer concierge home visits by appointment.

Does breast ultrasound replace a mammogram?

No. A breast ultrasound complements a mammogram — it gives a closer look at a specific lump or area of concern, and can show whether it is solid or a fluid-filled cyst.

Do I need to prepare?

No preparation is needed. Wear a two-piece outfit so you only need to undress from the waist up.

Is the exam painful?

No. Ultrasound is non-invasive and uses sound waves, not radiation. A warm gel is applied and the probe glides gently over the skin.

How long does it take?

Most breast studies take about 30 minutes.

Do I need a referral?

No. You can book a breast study directly.

When will I get my results?

A board-certified radiologist reads your images and the written report is delivered within 24 hours — to you, and to your physician if you like.

Does insurance cover it?

We are flat-rate cash pay with no facility fees. HSA and FSA cards are accepted, and we can give you a superbill to submit to your insurance yourself.
