Good to know

Soft tissue ultrasound questions

Do I need to prepare?
No preparation is needed. Wear clothing that makes the area easy to reach.
What can a soft tissue ultrasound show?
It shows the size and shape of a lump, whether it is solid or filled with fluid, and the blood flow around it — which helps your doctor decide whether it needs further tests or can simply be watched.
Do you scan joints, muscles or tendons?
No. Our soft tissue study is focused on one lump, mass or area of swelling.
Is the exam painful?
No. Ultrasound is non-invasive and uses sound waves, not radiation. A warm gel is applied and the probe glides gently over the skin.
How long does it take?
About 30 minutes.
Do I need a referral?
No. You can book a soft tissue study directly.
Where in San Diego will my scan be?
Wherever you are. We come to your home, office or hotel anywhere in San Diego County on our scheduled appointment days — the next are Thursday and Friday, November 19 and 20. We confirm your exact time and address with you first.
Do I pay when I request?
No. Requesting a scan puts you on our appointment-day list — nothing is charged. We confirm your appointment with you first.
When will I get my results?
A board-certified radiologist reads your images and the written report is delivered within 24 hours — to you, and to your physician if you like.
Does insurance cover it?
We are flat-rate cash pay with no facility fees. HSA and FSA cards are accepted, and we can give you a superbill to submit to your insurance yourself.
